Ebook Best-Seller Price Up, Thanks to the Big Six

This week's average ebook best-seller price is nearly $9.00 thanks to a preponderance of successful digital titles from traditional houses.

In fact-Hachette, Macmillan, Penguin, HarperCollins, Random House and Simon & Schuster-all six of the big six, have titles on DBW's ebook best-seller list this week. By contrast, only one self-published title ranks in the top 25 on this week's ebook best-seller list. And, independently published ebooks remain in the minority until we reach the under $3.00 list.

Pew: Third of Americans Now Own Tablets (DBW)
Last year only 18% of Americans owned a tablet computer. Now that number is up to 34%, according to the latest data from Pew's Internet & American Life Project. Tablets are second only to phones as the most common mobile e-reading device.

More Ebooks but Fewer People Reading in Russia (Pub Perspectives)
As early as 2020 ebooks are project to comprise 30% of the total domestic book market in Russia. In the meantime, the publishing industry is in decline. So the Russian government is investing over $100 million to save it.

Indie Publisher Caffeine Nights Acquires Huton's Digital Rights (The BookSeller)
Horror novelist, Shaun Hutson, has sold the ebook rights to his complete backlist in a deal brokered by his agent, Brie Burkeman. It's a "major coup for an independent publisher of our size," said Caffeine Nights managing director Darren Laws.
