Overview – County and local government agencies continue to assess the damage from a series of storms which tracked across southern Wisconsin over the last 48 hours. There have been no reports of injuries but there are numerous reports of property and road damage due to heavy winds, flooding and mudslides. The National Weather Service says additional storms will move through Wisconsin later today and tonight which could result in heavy rain and flash flooding along with damaging winds and hail. Flood Warnings continue for Crawford, Grant, Kenosha, Richland and Vernon Counties including: -East branch of the Pecatonica River near Blanchardville. -Fox River near New Munster in Kenosha County -Spring Creek at Lodi in Columbia County -Kickapoo River with moderate flooding at Steuben and Gays Mills
Columbia County - The National Weather Service has confirmed a tornado touchdown approximately 3 miles Southwest of Rio, WI around 8:55 p.m. Saturday. According to Columbia County Emergency Management, that tornado caused minor tree damages affecting some power lines. No injuries were involved and there is no request for assistance at this time.
Crawford County – The County Board Chair declared a State of Emergency last night. Flooding and multiple mudslides occurred throughout the county. Individual houses were evacuated throughout the evening across the county including Gays Mills where a Reception Center is being set up. American Red Cross has been contacted for assistance. Here are the latest road closures: Crawford County, US 61 NB at STH 60 EB (just north and across the Wisconsin River from Boscobel) Crawford County, Wis 35 NB at STH 27 NB (just north of Prairie du Chien) Crawford County, Wis 179 EB at STH 27 NB (near Eastman) Crawford County, Wis 171 EB at STH 27 NB (west of Gays Mills)
Grant County – Boscobel and Grant County officials declared a State of Emergency. Last night, Sheriff Nate Dreckman requested help from other law enforcement agencies to assist with traffic control near flooded roadways and possible evacuation assistance. Damage assessments are underway today to determine how many homes sustained flooding. The American Red Cross and Salvation Army are providing cleanup kits for affected residents. Cleanup kits can be obtained for free at Boscobel City Hall, 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. Sunday and throughout the week as needed. Kits include mops, bleach, and cleaning tools to sterilize basements and clean up flood damaged homes. Grant County has issued a call for volunteers to assist area residents with cleanup. They were requested to bring gloves and boots and report to the Boscobel City Hall for assignments. Area Fire Departments will also be available to pump water and sewage from basements. Residents are encouraged to document all damage with photos and save all receipts and report damage to homes. Boscobel residents are encouraged to contact city hall at 608-375-5001 to report damages. Grant County residents outside of Boscobel should contact Grant County Emergency Management. There will be a joint City-County Resident Assistance Center located at the Boscobel City Hall on Monday from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. with local and county agencies available to provide assistance to residents in need. The American Red Cross, Grant County Health Department, Grant County Center on Aging, Grant County Emergency Management, and City of Boscobel will have staff available to work with affected residents. The City of Boscobel has made dumpsters available for the disposal of flood-damaged carpeting and belongings for use by city residents. Other impacted areas of Grant County include flooding in the areas of Woodman, Mount Hope, Patch Grove, Blue River and the surrounding areas. A section of railroad track has been washed out about a mile west of Blue River. Earlier, the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources and Blue River Fire Department responded to a call regarding canoeists that were stranded on the Wisconsin River. Rescue crews helped 54 people of the river and all the canoeists have been accounted for.
Iowa County – County emergency management requested 5000 sandbags. The county will pick up those bags at Camp Williams at 3 p.m. The following roads are closed for either water on the roadway or a mudslide: Iowa County, Wis 130 SB at STH 23 EB (near Avoca) Iowa County, Wis 133 NB at STH 80 NB (east of Muscada) Iowa County, Wis 133 SB at Blue River (west of Muscada)
Vernon County – Minor flooding reported due to excessive rains. In Viola, a couple of out buildings were damaged due to high winds. State Highway 162 in lower Chaseburg is closed due to high water.
St. Croix County – The City of Hudson declared a State of Emergency due to large amounts of debris, taking emergency protective measures and damages to roads due to high winds and flooding. Initial county damage estimates include: Debris clearance; $45,000 Road damage: $80,000 County officials plan to ask for assistance from Wisconsin Disaster Fund.
Trempealeau County - Straight line winds were reported in Ettrick, which caused power lines to go down. No reports of residential damage or other major damage.
Wisconsin Emergency Management has 495,000 sandbags strategically place around Wisconsin and ready for delivery. The State Emergency Operations Center remains at level 4. The Senior Duty Officer and Duty Officer will continue to monitor the situation.
