DEFENSE DEPARTMENT ADDS PEER SUPPORT CHATS FOR SEXUAL ASSAULT VICTIMS

WASHINGTON (5/31/13) - In response to a need for peer support services identified by users of the Defense Department’s Safe Helpline for sexual assault victims, Pentagon officials have launched the Safe HelpRoom, a service that allows victims to participate in group chat sessions to connect with and support one another in a moderated and secure online environment.

HAGEL NAMES GUARD, RESERVE EMPLOYER SUPPORT NATIONAL CHAIR

ARLINGTON, Va. (5/31/13) – Defense Secretary Chuck Hagel has selected retired Army Maj. Gen. Paul E. Mock as the national chair for Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve, a Department of Defense operational committee that seeks to foster a culture in which all employers support and value the employment and military service of members of the National Guard and Reserve.

REPUBLIC OF DJIBOUTU (5/31/13) - Task Force Longrifles 1st Sgt. Robert Burns, a native of Atlanta, didn’t want to turn out like many of the guys he grew up with who were in “jail or dead” he said.  By his own admission, he was already in ‘the wrong crowd’ if he wanted to succeed in life, and he knew it.  So, unlike many of his friends, he joined the Army.

NORTH DAKOTA AIR NATIONAL GUARD MAKES HISTORY AS IT CONTROLS MISSILE FIELD SECURITY

MINOT, N.D. (5/31/13) - About six years after being born, they graduated. “Birth” and “graduation” were two of the recurring analogies used throughout last week as members of the North Dakota Air National Guard’s 219th Security Forces Squadron made history. For the first time ever, anywhere, reserve forces assumed complete control of missile field security.
