Secretary of Defense Chuck Hagel Dedicates Pentagon Korean War Exhibit

            Secretary of Defense Chuck Hagel will participate in a dedication ceremony for the Pentagon's Korean War Exhibit on June 18 at 11:30 a.m. EDT.  The program, sponsored by the Department of Defense 60thAnniversary of the Korean War Commemoration Committee, will be held on the first floor, A Ring, between corridors 6 and 7.   Media coverage of this event is limited to pre-determined pool coverage. 

            The Korean War Pentagon display will have photographs, videos, weapons used during the war and other items.  The display will include individual sections that highlight women in the Korean War, medical and technology advancements, and the integration of the military during the war, the United Nation Allies, and each of the service branches.  It will be a lasting symbol of the Department of Defense commitment to honor Korean War veterans and help educate the public about the Korean War for generations.  The display will become a part of the Pentagon tour that is seen by over 250,000 individuals each year. 

            The Department of Defense Korean War 60th Anniversary Commemoration Committee, authorized in the 2011 Defense Authorization Bill, is dedicated to thanking and honoring all the veterans of the Korean War, their families and especially those who lost loved ones in that war.  Over the next three years the Committee will honor the service and sacrifice of Korean War veterans, commemorate the key events of the war, and educate Americans of all ages about the historical significance of the Korean War.  

            Journalists without a Pentagon building pass will be picked up at the River Entrance only.  Plan to arrive no later than 45 minutes prior to the event; have proof of affiliation and two forms of photo identification.  Please call 703-697-5131 for escort into the building.
