General Officer Assignments

            The chief of staff, Army announced the following officer assignments:

             Maj. Gen. John M. Murray, director of force management, Office of the Deputy Chief of Staff, G-3/5/7, U.S. Army, Washington, D.C., to commanding general, 3rd Infantry Division (Mechanized), Fort Stewart, Ga.

             Brig. Gen. Thomas S. James Jr., who has been selected for the rank of major general, deputy commanding general (maneuver), 1st Cavalry Division, Fort Hood, Texas, to director, Mission Command Center of Excellence, Fort Leavenworth, Kan.  He was previously announced for deputy commandant, U.S. Army Command and General Staff College/deputy commanding general, leader, development and education, U.S. Army Combined Arms Center, Fort Leavenworth, Kan.

             Brig. Gen. John M. Cho, deputy chief of staff for operations, U.S. Army Medical Command, Falls Church, Va., to commanding general, Europe Regional Medical Command/command surgeon, U.S. Army Europe and Seventh Army, Germany.

             Brig. Gen. Jeffrey B. Clark, commanding general, Europe Regional Medical Command/command surgeon, U.S. Army Europe and Seventh Army, Germany, to commander, Walter Reed National Military Medical Center, Bethesda, Md.

             Brig. Gen. Roger L. Cloutier Jr., executive officer to supreme allied commander, Europe, Supreme Headquarters Allied Powers Europe, North Atlantic Treaty Organization, Belgium, to director of force management, Office of the Deputy Chief of Staff, G-3/5/7, U.S. Army, Washington, D.C.

             Brig. Gen. Duane A. Gamble, deputy commanding general, U.S. Army Sustainment Command, Rock Island, Ill., to deputy commanding general, 1st Theater Sustainment Command, Fort Bragg, N.C., and Operation Enduring Freedom, Afghanistan.

             Brig. Gen. John H. Hort, deputy commanding general-rear, 3rd Infantry Division (Mechanized) and senior commander-Fort Stewart, Fort Stewart, Ga., to deputy commanding general, 3rd Infantry Division (Mechanized), Fort Stewart, Ga.

             Brig. Gen. Robert P. White, deputy commanding general (support), 3rd Infantry Division (Mechanized)/deputy, commander-support, Regional Command-South, International Security Assistance Force, North Atlantic Treaty Organization, Operation Enduring Freedom, Afghanistan, to deputy director for politico-military, Affairs (Middle East), J-5, Joint Staff, Washington, D.C.

             Brig. Gen. James E. Rainey, director, Mission Command Center of Excellence, Fort Leavenworth, Kan., to deputy commanding general, 4th Infantry Division (Mechanized), Fort Carson, Colo.

             Brig. Gen. Patrick D. Sargent, to deputy chief of staff for operations, U.S. Army Medical Command, Falls Church, Va.  He most recently served as commander, Carl R. Darnell Army Medical Center, Fort Hood, Texas.
