June is "Great Outdoors" Month: President Obama said in his recent Presidential Proclamation establishing June 2013 as Great Outdoors Month, "For centuries, America's great outdoors have given definition to our national character and inspired us toward bold new horizons. This month, let us reflect on those timeless gifts, and let us vow to renew them in the years to come." In 2010, he issued a memorandum creating the America's Great Outdoors Initiative as a strategy to help Americans conserve natural and wild places so that they may continue to be used for recreation.  Be sure to use the warm summer months to try new outdoor activities.  Here are some ideas and helpful tips:

Share Your King Tide Photos! (June 21 – June 25)

Between June 21 - 25, areas of the east coast of the U.S. will experience a "king tide," the highest tide cycle of the year. A king tide is a natural phenomenon caused by alignment of the sun and moon, and  can cause localized flooding in low-lying areas.

If you take photos of king tides and high sea levels, upload your image in Flickr with "King Tide" in the description or as a tag. Then share it with the State of the Environment photo project. Learn more:  http://blog.epa.gov/epplocations/2013/06/have-you-seen-a-king-tide
