Apple and the U.S. Department of Justice will appear in court this week to resolve the matter of alleged ebook price fixing.

Several antitrust lawyers we've spoken with don't seem to think Apple has much of a chance of winning the case. Even the Judge involved doesn't think it looks good for Apple.

If Apple does lose, there may be more at stake than just ebook prices. One antitrust lawyer believes that Apple's reputation among consumers could suffer and likens this case to the Microsoft antitrust battle in the late 1990s that left the software giant's reputation sullied.

Samsung's Move Into Ebooks (DBW)
