Plants & Lawns

From David Beaulieu, your Guide to Landscaping
Welcome to installment #547 of Landscaping Newsletter. "I love it when a plan comes together." That's a famous line from a TV series that was popular in the 1980s, as many of you probably know. In landscaping we do a lot of planning, too - well, if we want to have a successful landscape design, anyway. Take floral color, for example....

Long-Blooming Perennials
One thing that some of us rack our brains over is something called "sequence of bloom." Specifically, we seek continuous sequence of bloom. The ideal is to have plant B pick up the slack for plant A, after the latter's flowering season ends. Then plant B passes the torch on to plant C, etc. You can well imagine how much planning all this requires if all these plants have short blooming periods. That's why we regard long-blooming perennials so highly; this article supplies examples.

Vinegar As an Organic Weed Killer
There are lots of ways to kill weeds organically. Which method you choose really depends on the circumstances: the type of weed, the scope of your project, etc. This article introduces you to one particular way to kill weeds organically: namely, by using vinegar.

How to Build a Brick Patio
Hardscape can enhance a landscape considerably. But when installing hardscape, there's no sense in making it any harder than it has to be. For beginners, one of the scariest parts of building a brick patio is the thought of having to cut the brick pavers. If you're building your first patio, I recommend that you take baby steps, using a method that minimizes the challenges you'll face.

Free Sign-Up for Landscaping Courses

I offer 5 ecourses. Course #1 runs for 108 days, while Course #4 lasts 128 days. The others run for about a month. Many readers have taken all of them, since each course covers different material. It makes no difference which one you sign up for first, as all of the courses stand on their own, independently of each other.
