From Teresa Plowright, your Guide to Family Vacations
The long school break during the summer months is classic family vacation time. Check out some tips for saving money... And then -- if you're a Harry Potter fan-- stockpile those vacation dollars for a trip to Orlando in 2014, when Universal Orlando adds a second Harry Potter theme park.

Tips for Saving Money on a Summer Vacation
Check out six strategies for going easy on the budget this summer, such as splitting costs with another family and renting a large vacation home. Whether you head to the beach or Orlando, benefits include multiple bedrooms, full kitchen so families can save money on meals, convenient laundry machines, and there may even be pool. Further ideas include home exchanges, family-friendly hostels, and family camps.

Affordable Vacation Towns
Our list of ten budget-friendly towns that offer plenty of family fun starts with Page, Arizona, which can be an affordable launch pad for an easy raft ride on the Colorado River, or a visit to the beautiful Antelope Slot Canyons, or houseboating on Lake Powell. Other suggestions include Washington DC (with its many free museums), Glenwood Springs Colorado, Myrtle Beach, and more.

Good News for Harry Potter Fans
We Muggles will soon have a new place to sample butterbeer, and scream our appreciation of themed thrill rides... Since 2010, fans have thronged to the Wizarding World of Harry Potter, the "theme park within a theme park" created with meticulous details in the Islands of Adventure theme park at Universal Orlando. Now the other theme park at Universal Orlando -- Universal Studios Florida -- will get its own Harry Potter area: Diagon Alley will open in 2014. How to get from one area to the other? Take a guess...

New England Ideas
And finally, this week: my colleague Kim Knox Beckius is celebrating her 15th year as About.com's Guide for New England travel. Have a look at her collection of her ten favorite stories written over the years, such as Do the Dunes, Hay Bale Art, World's Largest Pumpkin... Kim has also authored four books about travel in New England. Head to her site for New England travel ideas in any season: and as a mother herself, she always has an eye out for great family travel ideas.
